Legal

Privacy Policy.

Effective Date: August 4, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Gogaku mobile application (the "App") collects, why it is collected, and what happens to it. The App is operated by Philomath Tech LLC ("we," "us"), a Texas limited liability company.

The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the App, we do not sell your data, we do not serve advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles. The detail follows.

1. Information You Provide

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect a username, an email address, and a password. Passwords are stored only as a cryptographic hash — we cannot read your password and cannot recover it for you. Your email address is used to identify your account and to send password resets and essential service notices.

Content You Create

We store the flashcard decks you build, notes you write, and settings you choose, so that they are available across your sessions.

Conversation Messages

Messages you send to and receive from the in-app conversation partner are stored on our servers so that your conversation history persists and so the App can remember context between sessions. You can delete your conversation history at any time from within the App.

2. Information Collected Automatically

To make the App work, we record your learning activity: which lessons you have completed, your flashcard review history and spaced-repetition scheduling data, words you look up in the dictionary, and your daily message counts against any applicable usage limit.

We also log basic technical information such as request timestamps and error diagnostics. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not request the App Tracking Transparency permission because we do not track in the sense Apple defines it.

3. Third-Party Services

Apple

Subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We never receive or store your payment card details. We receive only a subscription status indicating whether your account is entitled to paid features.

OpenAI

The conversation and tutoring features are powered by large language models provided by OpenAI, L.L.C. When you send a message to the in-app conversation partner, the text of that message — together with relevant learning context such as your current vocabulary and grammar level — is transmitted to OpenAI in order to generate a response. OpenAI processes this data as our service provider under its API terms, which as of the effective date of this policy state that API inputs and outputs are not used to train OpenAI's models. We do not send OpenAI your name, email address, or password.

Because these messages leave our systems, you should not enter sensitive personal information, financial details, credentials, or confidential data into the conversation feature.

Infrastructure and Email

We use third-party hosting and database providers to run our servers, and a transactional email provider to deliver account emails such as password resets. These providers process data solely on our instructions in order to operate the service.

4. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to create and secure your account; to deliver lessons, dictionary results, flashcard scheduling, and conversation features; to constrain the conversation partner to vocabulary and grammar appropriate to your progress; to enforce usage limits and subscription entitlements; to respond to your support requests; and to diagnose faults and improve the App.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your account data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from within the App. Deleting your account removes your account record, learning progress, flashcard decks, and stored conversation history from our active systems. Residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before being overwritten in the ordinary course.

You can also clear your conversation history separately, without deleting your account, from the App's settings.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all traffic, hashed password storage, and token-based authentication. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps appropriate to the sensitivity of the data we hold.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete the account and associated data.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate information, to request deletion of your information, to receive a copy of your data in a portable format, and to object to or restrict certain processing.

Residents of California, the European Economic Area, and the United Kingdom have specific statutory rights under the CCPA/CPRA, the GDPR, and the UK GDPR respectively. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To exercise any right, email us at the address below; we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

9. International Transfers

We operate from the United States, and our service providers may process data in the United States and elsewhere. If you use the App from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify users through the App or by email, and will update the effective date above. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
